Freeze-dried candy might sound like a fun treat, but for this young entrepreneur, it’s also a booming business. After trying some and loving it, they were inspired to start making and selling their own—with a little help from mom to get started. What began as a sweet idea has grown into a confident business venture, one market and candy sample at a time.
CEM: Tell us about your business? How did you first get the idea?
I had tried the freeze dried candy before somewhere and I liked it, so I wanted to try and make it and make a business out of it.
CEM: What supplies and resources did you need to get going?
I needed bags, labels, a freeze dryer and a sealer. We just ordered the supplies and my mom helped me pay for all of it and then I’ll pay her back when I earn money from my sales.
CEM: What are some challenges you’ve faced in business and how did you overcome them?
When I did my first markets it was really hard for me to talk to people but the more markets I did the easier it got to talk to people.
CEM: Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?
If you do food, maybe have some samples to give out so people can try it and will want to buy it. Also, bring a lot of it with you so you don’t run out.
CEM: How can potential customers get in touch with you?
I don’t have a Facebook or anything but you can always email my mom to get a hold of me. meg.lloyd.5@gmail.com
