We were so inspired by Moose, Inc. Publishing, a creative venture founded to help young writers bring their stories to life. After publishing her first book, One Moose One Goose, this passionate book lover turned her self-taught journey into a mission to empower others. From writing and illustrating on an iPad to navigating the world of self-publishing, she’s proving that age is no barrier to making an impact.
CEM: Tell us about your business and why you got started?
My business is called Moose, Inc. Publishing, and we publish books for kids and young adults. I’ve always been a bookworm and a passionate writer, but the idea of publishing my own books used to feel really daunting. It’s surprising how little information there is about how to actually get started. After doing a lot of research and publishing my first book, One Moose One Goose, I decided to start my own publishing house to help other young, aspiring writers bring their dreams to life.
CEM: What resources did you use to start your business?
When it came to publishing my own book, some of the resources I used were my computer and iPad, which I used to write and illustrate. However, the main resource I needed was knowledge! I did a ton of research—watching YouTube videos, visiting publishers’ websites, and looking at some of my favorite books for inspiration.
CEM: What are some challenges you’ve faced with your business?
The main challenge was teaching myself everything! As I said, there’s not enough information for self-publishers about the process. I was super intimidated to even enter the publishing space knowing relatively nothing when I started. I’ve learned so much this last year, and that’s why I’m so passionate sharing what I’ve learned to other young authors.
CEM: What advice do you have for other young entrepreneurs?
Just go for it! Trying something new can be really scary, but if you put in the time and stay committed, it’ll definitely be worth it. Always remember why you’re doing what you’re doing, and don’t lose sight of that goal. You should have a passion for your business that goes beyond just making money.
CEM: Where can people learn more about your business?
You can follow me on Instagram and Facebook all my info and links are there! You can also reach out to me directly at mooseincpub@gmail.com. I try to attend as many Children’s Entrepreneur Markets in Nashville as possible, so if you see me there, feel free to stop by and say hi!
