Sisters Betsey and Jingy Ward turned their backyard harvest into a thriving small business with Wildberry Jelly and Eggs. What started as a simple idea—”Why can’t we sell this?”—blossomed into selling homemade jelly and fresh eggs at local markets. With ingredients picked straight from their yard and a growing customer base, these young entrepreneurs are learning, growing, and having fun along the way.

Betsey and Jingy Ward began their business, Wildberry Jelly and Eggs, in 2024 to begin selling their homemade jelly and the eggs from their backyard chickens at Children’s Entrepreneur Market. I got a chance to sit down with them to hear about their business ventures so far, and I loved hearing about their experiences and advice!

CEM: Tell us about your business. How did you first get this idea?

Betsey: We had honeysuckles and made jelly from them, and I said, “Why can’t we sell this?”
Jingy: I thought the same thing for the most part!

CEM: What supplies and resources did you need to get going, and how did you get ahold of them?

Betsey: Most of it is from the yard… the berries are from our yard and our garden.
Jingy: We needed jars, pectin, and all the fruits and flowers. We got the jars from Walmart, but all the fruits and flowers are from our yard.

CEM: That’s amazing! Do you go and pick them yourselves?

Jingy: Yep!

CEM: What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

Jingy: Not eating all of them! I just kind of have to watch myself!
Betsey: Talking to strangers. It’s not hard anymore; just doing it all the time helped.

CEM: Do you have any advice for other aspiring kid entrepreneurs?

Betsey: Don’t eat what you make!
Jingy: Same thing!

CEM: How can potential customers get in touch with you?

Betsey: Our Facebook page Wildberry Jelly and Eggs !
